FINALLY!

So I got my letter in the mail today...

And...

I GOT IN! I am so happy and excited and a lot of other feelings I can't even describe.

But, I must put all this on hold so I can go study for the four tests I have next week, just in time to go to a celebratory dinner with friends tonight.

As soon as I have time, I will tell ya'll about finding out and everything, but I just wanted to let ya'll know as soon as possible since everybody was so supportive!

Swine Unite Part II

Got some more pictures for ya'll!

We finished up at the Swine Unit the week before spring break, and the supervisor finally got the pictures that we took back to us. We worked on processing the newborn pig litters that week. That means (bear with me) notching the ear for identification, giving them iron shots, and docking their tails. Not very pleasant stuff mind you, but still very interesting and I enjoyed doing it.

Here a picture of a sow about to give birth. They start getting up and laying down over and over, and make as much loud noise as they can. Too bad lab ended before we could watch it all happen.

You can see the ear notching in this piglet. There are certain zones around the ear dedicated to certain numbers. 1, 3, 9, 27, and 81. Right ear is for pig litter number, and left ear is for individual pig number.
So a pig #8 from litter #23 would have two notches at the 3 and two at the 1 on it's left ear, and two notches at the 9, one at the 3, and two at the 1 on it's right ear
You get the point.

Remember my picture from last time? Those were around three weeks old. Here's what the look like as newborns. More like three pounds. And now I can hold two instead of just one. Double the cuteness.

I believe my friend scared her pig a little too much, because looks like she got peed on. Lovely.

Auburn Vet School Interview

Thanks for all the support I recieved from you guys! It was greatly needed and helped me a lot.

My interview went really well, and I was very happy with it. While I don't know how it compared to everyone else's, I just know that I did my best and that I have no regrets with how it went. I didn't really get too nervous, especially when I think about all the other applicants in the waiting room with me. Talk about nervous.. some people's faces were so white I thought they might pass out before it even started. But it helped that the interviewers were very nice and kept the interview fairly casual.

So let me try to write out all the questions that I remember they asked me.
- Tell us about your childhood, and growing up
- How are you doing in your classes- they went through each of my current classes
- What do you think your future career as a veterinarian will be
- Describe the day in the life of a veterinarian
- What would you do if you saw one of your fellow classmates cheating on a test
- What would you do if a client came in for a second opinion and you saw that the veterinarian had seriously messed up an operation on this animal, and you find out that this is not the first of his mistakes
- How do you feel about the animals you would practice on in vet school, knowing full well that you will be killing them at the end of the surgery.
- How do you feel about using animals for research and teaching
- Given the fact that we have many qualified applicants, what makes you so unique and special that we should pick you over the others
- After 4 years of vet school on top of your 4 years undergrad, how do you plan to pay for your education
- What are some of the ways veterinarians keep our food supply safe
- Are you going to be able to handle drawing blood, inserting catheters, surgery etc. etc.
- Is there anything else you would like to mention or explain about yourself before you leave
- Do you have any questions for us about anything.

There we probably several more, but those are the only ones that I can remember. The interview ended up lasting about 35 minutes, which was quite a bit longer than other people's that averaged around 20-25 minutes. Maybe I talked too much? If you want to know more, just ask me.

They will be sending out letters sometime this week so I should know one way or the other hopefully no later than next Monday. But I will keep you all posted.

.

That was no subject heading on purpose, simply to exemplify my chill, non-nervous emotional state. Yeah...

Spent the past weekend preparing for my interview tomorrow. I feel like the last four years of my life have culminated to this point in my college career.   THE INTERVIEW.

Okay maybe that was a bit dramatic.

But, it's at 3:00 tomorrow, so wish me luck and lots of prayers! Seriously!

Piggies

If you haven't heard me talking about it yet (and you probably haven't, since I don't talk to most of you on a regular basis), my class has finished covering Diary Cows, and we are now well into the topic of Swine, a.k.a. pigs.
This meant that we left behind E.V. Smith Dairy Farm and are now spending our labs at the Swine Unit.
Pros? This is much closer to campus, in fact it is pretty much on campus, and I finally get to work with pigs, something I have never done before.
Cons? This is a shower-in, shower-out biosecure facility.
No really, the only entrance into the unit is THROUGH a shower. And it is not just rinsing off either. You gotta wash your hair and everything. You leave your clothes behind in the locker rooms and step through the other side where they have scrubs waiting for you.

Oh yeah... and underwear (major granny panty-esque) and sports bras. I have gotten used to it now, but it was definitely awkward at first. I haven't had underwear up to my belly button since kindergarten. At least back then it had disney characters on it or something. Now they are just plain white to add to locker room laughter. Lets just say we all know each other a LOT better now.

While getting into the facility may be a pain, we have a lot of fun, and it is always worth it. So far we have vaccinated sows, used ultrasound to detect pregnancies, weighed them, measured back-fat thicknesses, and learned how to sort them around. We also got to check on the little piglets, which are the cutest things ever. This picture is courtesy of one of my friends who lysol-ed her phone to get it inside the building. Sigh... kids today. But at least I got a picture!

This is from the second week that we went, and they had gotten so much bigger. In three weeks, the grow from about 2 pounds to 30 pounds, so you can imagine. But still fairly cute nonetheless. Me? Not so much.

March 2, 1987

And so ends my birthday week. So sad.

I was able to drag it on for a while, but now its over.

A recap?
Lets see... I went to Atlanta last weekend to spend my birthday with my parents and little sister. That meant a trip to my favorite cafe in Roswell for lunch, chicken enchiladas for the dinner of my choice, and stranger than anything else, Snow. That was the last thing I expected for my March birthday. I enjoyed it while it lasted, with the exception of driving back to Auburn in it's aftermath. It was pretty much a white out the whole way back. EXCEPT when I got into the Opelika area, where it started melting. Figures.
And I got my presents of course. One of them being a recipe box. I had been asking for mom to fix me up a cute one for a while now (seeing as how she stole my other one), and it ended up being my birthday present. I am looking for some good recipes to fix, so if you would like to share your favorite with me- shoot me an email. I also got my first electric toothbrush, I may be the last one in the family to get one, but it was worth the wait! And I am smelling good again in my David Yurman perfume. Thanks!

Monday, after I begrudgingly accepted that school was NOT going to get canceled (which would have been the most amazing birthday present EVER!), my friends and I went to Laredo's Mexican restaurant for dinner. This will mark my third birthday spent at this place. The food is cheap, and they treat you to a sombrero birthday hat.

Taylor's birthday is on the 1st, so we usually do joint birthday parties. He is not as enthusiastic about his hat as I am mine.

Then my grandparents came down this Saturday to spend the day with me. Amsterdam's for turkey wraps and sweet potato chips, and Cock of the Walk for feeling stuffed.. Maybe next time we should not make it our goal to see how many tubs of coleslaw, pans of cornbread, and bottles of tarter sauce we can get out of them.
They took me shopping and got me a few shirts and a much needed pair of jean capris (my current ones have a rip in them) from Ann Taylor Loft. I love my outfits and wore one to a meeting I had tonight, thanks!
I introduced Grampy to the fields and he threw the ball around with Daisy. It was warm outside and felt amazing. Makes me sad I didn't think of bringing my camera. In fact, I forgot about it all weekend.

I went back to Ann Taylor's after work today to pick up one last thing Granny got for me and to pick up a Jacket that mom said she would get for me. We had a few $25 off coupons that couldn't be used until today, hence the wait. And there my birthday ended. Until next year-
when I will turn 23... with is only 7 years 'til I am in my 30's... which is only 10 years 'til I am 40. I am almost over the Hill and getting old!

On another note, for those of you who don't know, I have my vet school interview on March 17th at 3:00. I hadn't really talked about it yet, just because I guess I have some delusion that the lesser deal I make of it, the less important it becomes. As you can probably imagine, that doesn't really work.
I have spent the past week preparing on and off for it, and will continue to do so through Spring Break. I am planning on spending the first half of the week in Auburn preparing for it nonstop, and then going Atlanta for the rest of the week and relaxing.
I also had my mock interview with the career development services this morning.
The advised me to speak slower (a challenge when I get nervous) and to prepare more for more personal questions like "Tell me about yourself."- a seemingly easy question, but where do you start?
She scored me as "well above average" (a 5) in things like: Dress/presentation, listening to the questions, energy level, knowledge of self/self-confident, creativity/flexibility, resume/experience/grades. I got "above average" (4) in communication skills/persuasion/grammar (because I needed to slow down), and in preparation/sense of direction.

So overall, I was happy with how it went even though I didn't feel I was up to the level I was a year ago when I was interviewing on campus for several different things. The questions they asked me seemed a bit easier than what other people say they were asked. However, I think that this was what I needed to "shock" me back into interview mode. It is just a totally different way of thinking. Luckily, I don't mind doing it as much as some people do.

I was also videotaped during the whole thing and she emailed it to me so I could see how I did. I haven't watched it yet, but maybe one day I will post it. (haha, probably not).

My LOVEly past two weeks.

Hello again.

I'm feeling a fairly long-winded blog, because I haven't written in so long.
Just bear with me.
Since my last trip to the E.V. Smith Dairy Farm, I have been back twice; once to milk the cows, and once to perform mastitis checks. Both times were equally fun, although just a little annoyed that we drove 30 minutes out there yesterday, only to leave after 20 minutes to make the 30 minute drive back to Auburn. But other than that they were very informative, and it is always nice to get some hands-on experience. You know what my favorite part of both of those days was? Getting to eat a Moe's before we left. If nobody else, I know Lindsey will appreciate that.

What else happened?

Oh yeah, Valentine's day happened. A.K.A. "Single Awareness Day." That is always an extra special day for me.

Just kidding. Actually, I quite enjoy Valentine's Day. It gives me an excuse to dress up in all pink, red, and purple, and wear any heart-shaped jewelry I have. And there is always a "single's party" that night. This time, all my single friends and I (a group which gets disconcertingly smaller and smaller every year), headed to Chili's to enjoy their queso appetizer, and their Chocolate Molten Lava cake and ice-cream afterwards. They stayed out for their party they were having, but I unfortunately couldn't go. More on that later.

This holiday is also nice because my dad and I always exchange something. I will be enjoying his gift to me for 60 minutes tomorrow at Spa Auburn. Gotta love a massage. I really think I kneaded it too.

For him, I bought a red poster-board and then proceeded to bedazzle and feather and ribbon and glue that thing to death. It seemed like a great idea and all, only then I had this giant thing that was incapable of being rolled up, and no way to get it to Atlanta for him. I decided to try my luck with UPS, and see what they could do with it. Now mind you, I didn't take it into the store at first, because there was no way I was going to be caught dead in public with this crazy thing I had made, unless I had to. I asked the guy if they could mail a posterboard, and he said "Sure, we can just roll it up and put it in one of these tubes." Well that wouldn't work because it was just too thick from the bows I put on it, too stiff from all the glue, and too delicate because the gems would pop off. So he suggested mailing it in a big cardboard box, and just not opening it all the way. It would be almost flat, and they could just tape off the edges. So I was very happy to hear that they could mail it, but sad because that meant I had to bring it in and show it too them. Needless to say, they didn't show too much amusement on their faces when they saw it. But they had to lay it on the scale while people kept coming in and out of the store and staring at it. Good thing I am not an easily embarrassed person. And good thing I am a girl, because I think even I would have laughed if I saw a guy trying to mail it.
Don't get me wrong, it is really cute and I was happy with it, it was just very Loud.

I also got my roommate to take some pictures of me and Daisy in our Valentine's Day garb to send to my dad also. Here are some samples.

So why couldn't I continue the Valentine's celebration that night? I spent most of the past two weeks studying, in preparation for the largest grouping of tests I have ever had since coming to college. That would be: Molecular Genetics on Monday, Animal Breeding and Animal Growth and Development on Tuesday, and Domestic Animal Behavior and G&D Lab Midterm on Wednesday. Needless to say, I felt the need to start studying early. And in the end, despite some minor freaking out that I just wouldn't make it, they all went fairly well. Praying for some peace of mind really can help matters out a lot. Now all I got to do is get caught up on my shows. But that's the fun part.

My Life as a Dairy Cow

I spent my afternoon at the E.V. Smith Diary Farm: Exit 26 off of 85. I went there for a lab in my Modern Livestock Systems Management class.

I had a couple of classes first, and then a friend picked me and two other girls up from the Animal Science building. We had about forty-five minutes before we needed to leave, so we went and grabbed some lunch at Veggies-to-Go. Definitely one of my favorites. And made me very happy.
Then we made the 30 minute drive out there, which wasn't too bad. Mainly because I have been looking forward to this for a while, since I love going to E.V. Smith. We always do something fun there. This time my instructor, Dr. Cummins, (who is incidentally my advisor as well), took us around the farm and explained to us all the different methods and techniques they use for waste management, feedstuff mixing, blah blah blah.
Interesting stuff, don't get me wrong, but I was ready to do what i was really was looking forward to- feeding the baby calves!
Later.
Here I managed to snap a picture of the infamous Dr. Cummins, explaining away the content of these cows' (cow's, cows, cowses? hah) feed: forage, corn silage, cottonseed- O Wait... you don't really care to know that do you? Anyways, this picture is for you mom.

So, the funny thing about dairy calves, is that they are taken away from their mother after a day or two, and then are kept in these things called hutches. There is one calf per hutch and they are kept far away enough from each other so that they can't have any physical contact. They practice this procedure, because it prevents the spread of disease between calves and keeps them from dying. It is funny because it makes them look like dogs, and the hutches look like doghouses. They have a collar and everything. A few of the girls in my class and I decided to see how many people we could fit in the hutch. I count six. I tried to convince the guys to have a "cute guy picture" like ours, but to no avail.

And then I have about 50 million ridiculously cute pictures of my friends and I all feeding the calves. If you want to see them all, just check out my facebook album. And I don't think I even put all of the ones I had there either. I put up some videos also.

This calf was everybody's favorite because she was a freak. Ahem, a red holstein cow that is. Not black and white like all her cooler neighbors. Or those happy california cows for that matter.
Speaking of- did you know that the "Great cheese comes from Happy cows, Happy cows come from California" commercials are played in every state except California, where it is illegal? That would be because PETA sued them for false advertising and won. Don't you just love those people? Here and Here.

I actually took this picture, because Dr. Cummins just finished telling us that this cow has approximately 100 pounds of milk in her udders right now, most likely a little more. Whew! Thank goodness she is walking up to the milking parlor in this picture. If I had 100 pound boobs-
that would suck.

And just a few more random pictures for ya'll to enjoy.

Groovy Man

Got a few pictures of me and Carlyn rockin' the 3D glasses during the Super Bowl party.

I must say I was slightly disappointed with special effects. I don't know what I was expecting, since it is not like my T.V. is made for that kind of thing anyways. I guess I just wanted everything to pop out at me a little more. Instead I just got a bunch of football players floating around the screen. Maybe I just wanted it to be a little more...

Gratifying? Especially after all the hype and advertising they did about it.

To top it off, my head hurt after I took the glasses off, from adjusting back to the normal television screen.

But at least we looked very hip. Or as Carlyn's mom told her when she handed them to her, "you will be the coolest one at the party!" Thanks mom.

So after I read my sister's blog, I decided to post a few pictures of my own. I got home yesterday and Magen told me she had taken pictures of something on my camera, and this is what they were.

Someone had pulled the trashbag out of the can, and set it down next to it. Combine that with all the leftover Super Bowl snacks, and I just don't think Daisy could resist.

I wasn't planning on posting this, because it is not that big of a deal to me. Daisy is constantly flipping the trashcan lid open while I am gone and pulling out just my banana peels to eat. Only when something rises to the level of bodily functions do I not like cleaning it up.  ech. But I just wanted Lindsey to know that her dog is not the only one causing trouble this week.

Pre-Super Bowl XLIII

I am having a few people over tonight for the Commercials... excuse me, I mean for the Super Bowl.

Called Meaghan earlier, and we decided to go to the grocery store together and buy a few things to fix for snacks tonight.

I fixed the brownie chocolate chip thing suggested by my sister and am currently waiting for the ganache to set. Then we will see if it turned out all right. But it looks Heavenly.

Pouring in the ganache.

Meaghan provided us with some 7-layer Mexican Dip.

Oh Yeah, we made rotel dip too.

Meaghan also brought her Sheltie, Anna, over to hang out with us. She and Daisy are both pretty chill and they pretty much ignore each other. Except for the fact that Anna tends to follow Daisy around and stare at her. I call her Daisy's lesbian lover.

They love each other!

Haha, I am just putting up this picture that Meaghan took, because she thought it was going to be a good picture... except Daisy sneezed while she took it. She looks pained.

All dressed up with no where to go.

Took a trip down to Tigertown today. First I ate at O'Charlies where my friend works as a waitress. Got some free potato soup to eat for dinner tonight. Eating it right now, actually.

Then I ran into Hobby Lobby to get a picture frame for some of the lovely pictures Mrs. Gina took of Daisy. Picture frames are always 50% off there, so you can get a fairly good deal. I found a nice looking purple and rhinestone one that matches my bedroom. So now Daisy has her first picture in my room.

On another note, I have really been wanting a curling iron lately. When Lindsey moved out, a lot of things went with her. The curling iron was one of them. So I ran into Sally Beauty Supply and picked one up. Got home and had to pull it out of the box and do my hair. Of course.

Here is my transformation.

Working on it.
One and a half hours later, here is the finished product.

Then Magen came into my room, saw my hair, and had me do hers too.

Sigh... Roomates.

Took a picture of hers too, she is on her phone of course, and all is right with the world.

Actually the title is a bit of a misnomer. We are headed out tonight with a bunch of friends,

Sooo...

So Long!

Memory Foam

So, if you remember me talking about getting Daisy a memory foam bed, I basically dismissed it, because I decided I didn't want to pay 200 something dollars for a twin bed-sized memory foam. I would have just cut it up into a circle and stuck it under the donut of her current bed. However, Magen found some foam on the internet for much cheaper.

It is $20, or $180 cheaper, that is. So I am going to look into this. We just won't tell Daisy that it is not the name brand memory foam, because what she doesn't know won't hurt her.

Thanks, Magen!

Acronyms

It's kind of funny the there is an awards banquet entitled the SAG Awards. A.K.A "Screen Actors Guild."

You know what SAG means to me? Sexually Active Group. No seriously. that is what it is called when a group of cows come into estrous.

Maybe we need to look into the double acronym thing. It's just not working for me.

Want another acronym? T.G.I.F. Thats is how I am feeling right now.

Right now I am just chillaxing (that ones for you, Stephen) in the foyer of the science building waiting for molecular genetics to start at 12:00. And then pass me by. Then I'll go straight to work at 1:00, end around 4:00, and I'll be done for the week!
Thats the beautiful thing about Friday. It doesn't matter how long your day is going to be, or how bad it might go. You will always feel just a little bit happy, because your week is almost over. And you can sleep in the next day.

So I am happy.

Time for some Schooling

Daisy got a little more educated today. She endured a Livestock Management Systems' class on Dairy cow and Heifer management, and then a Domestic Animal Behavior class on aggression and submission behavior
Too bad I couldn't get a picture of her going around the room from person to person soliciting attention. She even managed to get one girl to allow her to lick the plastic bowl she was eating her lunch from. She is good at what she does.
My teacher then informs me that Golden Retriever's are the "blondes" of the canine world, and that is why Daisy is able to look 25 years old even though she is more like 50. ... Given the fact that he thinks she looks 3-4 years old, and she is actually 8.
He also used her as an example in my Behavior's class as a show of submission. What you ask? Yes, apparently Daisy exudes submissive qualities. He says that the wolves on the lowest of the totem pole go around from wolf to wolf (of higher status) and solicit attention, hoping for food and attention. Who knew?

Other random facts I learned:
  • Ratio of Brain Weight to Body Weight:
Human 2%
Cat 1%
Dog .5 %
Cow .3%
Horse .1%
Pig .05%
That almost worked (Pigs are actually pretty smart). And maybe this is why cats just sit around and stare at us. They probably are smart enough to plot our deaths.
  • How can places like Golden Corral afford to have "all-you-can-eat" steak for $9.99? They either use Male Diary Bulls (which aren't really good for anything, and are bred for milk productivity genes to pass on to daughters, but definitely not for their meat quality), or sick and weak cattle that the farmer doesn't want anymore, but still can make some money by culling them for slaughter. So think twice before you get cheap steak. Also, almost all beef patties are Diary Bulls. When you mush it all together, I guess it all tastes the same.
  • Now that a bill has been passed to use corn to make ethanol, an alternative fuel source, we have to either find something else to feed our farm animals, or pay more money to keep feeding them corn. Either way, our meat, milk, and egg prices are soon to start increasing in prices in a bad way. :(   And it is quite a shame since converting corn to ethanol is only 1.5% efficient. But hey, at least we are no longer dependent on the Middle East for oil. Too bad we will no longer be able to afford food.

Bath Time

Daisy was in dire need of a bath. As in, every time I petted her, I felt the need to wash my hands. After a week of putting it off, I finally did yesterday afternoon. The problem with giving Daisy a bath in my tub is that I don't have a removable shower head, so I have to use a cup to rinse her. She has a lot of hair, so bath time usually lasts around 45 minutes. Yesterday was no exception. But she is a good dog and just stands there looking pitiful the whole time.

On a funnier note, about 15 minutes into Daisy's bath, the water went cold.
No, not funny because Daisy had to have a cold shower, but because Magen was in her bathroom taking a shower too.
Because the washing machine was running, and Daisy and Magen were taking showers, this meant the water was ice cold. haha. Daisy stole all Magen's hot water.

Here she is after I halfway finished blowdrying her. I don't normally do that, and I just let her air dry. But she is older now, and it is winter so I figured she would be more comfortable if she got dryer faster.

And now she is all pooped out after a long day of baths and watching the Miss America Pageant over at Ellen's house.
By the way, I was watching and recognized Miss Alabama, Amanda Tapley. She went to Briarwood, and is a year younger than me. She currently goes to Samford. And Magen thought it fitting to inform me that we are now getting older than the Miss America contestants-
There's a depressing thought if I've ever heard one.

Now more than ever I find her on the couch when nobody else is in the living room. I think because of her arthritis, her joints are more comfortable on something soft. Which I why I took a trip to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to get some memory foam last month. I was going to cut it in the shape of her dog bed and stick it under the donut. She is getting to the point were she hardly sleeps there anymore; only on my bed or the couch. However, I decided memory foam was just too expensive, and the bed and couch will serve her just fine.

Hair 2

So in response to those comments, I decided I would put a picture of myself where I had side-swept bangs.

Now imagine them a little shorter, and all the way across my face. It's not so bad. Really.

MLK and hair

Went to Tuscaloosa for a Martin Luther King party my friend was throwing.
Instructions? --Wear black or white.

Hmm.. I am not pulling off the "thug" look as well as my friends.
My mother would be so proud to hear that.

My day off from school was very much enjoyed; although by the time I got back to Auburn, it was right back to business with an ACF leadership meeting at the minister's house. Perks were included however, and his wife made chili for everyone. Later that night as I was chillaxing, I suddenly remembered I had to read two chapters from my Animal Breeding book for a quiz the next day. That's what holidays do to you, you get too comfortable and forget your responsibilities.

So I have a badly needed haircut coming up soon (starting to look like a Church of God woman, as my mother calls it), and I am thinking I want to do something very drastic. My idea was to get layered full bangs. I have always wanted them, and I figure no day like today. So I am thinking Reese Witherspoon. My other option was a much shorter haircut which I do not want to do as much (I love my long hair). Plus I am not very good at styling hair, which is a must for medium length cuts. I guess I could always get better at it though. What do you think?

Double Take

I set my alarm as usual for 7:00 so I could get up and take Daisy for a walk. The alarm went off a 7:00, and I cut it off as quick as I could to stop my bed from vibrating. Otherwise I am like a cell phone on a kitchen countertop - I'll vibrate right off the bed. You know.

I then closed my eyes and thought about getting up. Ugh, I threw off the covers, got out of bed and lugged my unwilling body over to my bathroom.
Turned on my shower, and closed the shower curtains, only to realize I left my towel inside my bathtub! It's going to get wet! I look inside, and there is no towel to be seen.

Wait...

I opened my eyes again, and looked at my alarm clock.          7:06.       It's going to be one of those days I guess.

So I got up for real this time, and put on my workout clothes instead. I decided last night instead of going my usual route in the neighborhoods behind my apartment or at the museum, I was going to go to this mini park a couple of miles away that has a bunch of trails for runners. The minute I stepped outside, however, I had to fight the urge to go right back inside and jump back in my most likely still warm bed. I am pretty sure it was in the 20's this morning, which was a drastic change from the 70 degrees we experienced yesterday. But I don't really own a fleece, so I was just wearing a sweatshirt, sweatpants and some gloves. I don't think that was enough. When I got back home from our outing, I looked in the mirror and my whole face had windburn, except for a perfect silhouette of my sunglasses. Lovely.

Had a few classes today, and then my lab, because they start up the second week of school. This was my growth biology lab, and we were going to be doing Protein fractionation of skeletal muscle. So much fun, right? We started off with frozen muscle sample that had been kept in liquid nitrogen, and then took a hammer to it and had to shatter the sample (which was steak by the way). This turned it into white powder. Very appetizing. How that happened I do not know, all I know is that it was fun hitting steak with a mallet. It was like everything your mom won't let you do at home. Just try it. Ask someone if you can take tonight's steak, freeze it and the shatter it into a million pieces. They will probably say no.

The second part of lab took place in the labs downstairs where I work. Wonderful. We had to sit there and learn everything about Nitrogen analysis. Keep in mind this is one of the things I do every day. And it is not that interesting of a subject. BORING. Then Dr. Lin asked me to do the titration in front of my class which was just slightly awkward. I didn't mess it up, so for that I can be thankful. Lab ended after that, and I stayed there and finished off the rest of the titrations so I could put another hour in on the payroll. Gotta bring home the moolah. My family depends on it. Right dad?

I skipped chapter tonight in favor of a grocery trip to Kroger. Then heading to Niffer's for a friend's 22nd birthday. That will be me in a month and a half!

Oh yeah! My Tom's came in via friendly fed-ex man. And I love them. If anyone wants to check them out, go to tomsshoes.com. The are normally around $42, but if you type LuckyBreaks10 in the coupon code at checkout, you can get them for $31.50! Not too bad. They have lots of different styles, and for everyone you buy, they give one pair to a child in need in a third-world country.

O Happy Day

An Overview: As I write this entry I am listening to Celine Dion's album, Lets Talk about Love. Let's see where this takes me.

School is slowly but steadily working back up to its usual hectic pace. Had a classes at 10, 11, and 12 today and then came home to grab some lunch before I went back to work at 1:00.

Where you reading closely?

I had class at 12:00, meaning it ended at 12:50, and then came home to eat lunch before work at.....

1:00.

Does that make sense to you? It didn't to me either when I sat at my computer with my tuna fish and started surfing the web. It didn't take me long to realize that my computer clock said 1:36.  Double back... Is my computer on Atlanta time? Unfortunately no.

That meant stuffing my food down my throat (tuna fish is not meant to be gulped down in two bites, let me tell you), and heading right back out the door to work.
O Happy Day.

Drove back to campus for the second time today, and ran back to the Animal Science buildings.
Work consisted of my boss asking me all the usual questions.
"Ahhh... you left handed...  how you kiss boy? If he right-handed then you bump heads?"
O Happy Day.

I left work around 4:30, and went to Starbucks to get a venti mocha latte with the gift card that Santa gave me.

Now I am about to drive back to campus for the third time today for an ACF leadership meeting.

O Happy Day.
Here's to a Happier tomorrow.

Movie Time

Went to see the Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway today.  "Bride Wars" was a pretty good movie. I laughed like crazy, and my friends and I all promised to never act that way towards each other.

One thing I must say however, 7 DOLLARS  for a matinee!?? Kind of a rip-off if you ask me.

The movie was at 2:50, and we got there right on time. Luckily Laura had bought our tickets for us ahead of time because the other half of our group didn't buy them early, therefore when the movie sold out they were left out in the dreary cold and rain. :(
The lines from the ticket windows stretched out into the parking lot. Crazy.

In the meantime, I am just gonna veg out on the couch while watching E.T.-The Extraterrestrial.

Peace Out.

2009.

Hmm...

Sorry for no posts, but not to much incentive to write on my break. I spent most of my valuable time laying around watching t.v. or playing scrabble with the family. Went to Birmingham twice to see my grandparents and my friends. Went out with some friends for new years eve and had lots of fun.
I got back to Auburn a couple of days ago, and have spent my time getting ready for a new year. Bought me a cute new planner from target (red of course), gave daisy her heartworm pill, and bought some lean cuisines. Standard stuff of course. Went over to Laura's house tonight and she cooked us an Ethiopian dinner. Her boss had instructed her to go ahead and start cooking it, because once she gets there she has to make all her food from scratch. I think I would have to starve, because I can't even cook American food. It was pretty good and I think I would even want to make it myself. Just lots of vegetables, some chicken, and spices. Then you take some pita bread and tear off pieces and use them to pick up the stir fry. I love eating my food with my hands! I went through her recipe book, and the ones with goat meat in it actually instructed you on how to kill it. For example, recipe #1: After spearing goat, place the animal (hide and all) on the bonfire and allow it to cook. The skin will give you its salty flavor. Recipe #2: To kill the goat, hold its mouth closed and cover the nostrils to suffocate it. Skin the goat, cut the meat into squares and cook.

Yumm...  Just wanted to leave ya'll feeling hungry!
